I have this itch I need to scratch, and it is creating art. I just can’t stop! Obviously, designing and creating are my passions. I didn’t discover this until later in life – which seems so strange now as I am writing this. I took my first art class in graduate school, which would be the late 90s. When I was in a graphic design class, I really fell in love with it at the time and found something that I was pretty good at! I found an amazing career as a user experience architect, designing software ensuring it is human friendly and I still do that today and it is a good career for me. I love designing and making art, but lately am very passionate about painting. I had never taken a painting class until a few years ago, and that was an oil painting class, which was a little different than the paintings that I create now. I have painted for a while and it took a looooong time to get to where I am now – which is creating art that I think is pretty good and has my own personal style and I am not afraid to share with the world.
I love that we share this passion and have created this place to create together. Which brings me to the whole point of this – do what you love! I think everyone needs to find his or her passion and do it as much as possible. It makes your life so joyful, fun, and incredible. If you are not sure what your passion is, go try some new things – you may be surprised by what lights a fire within you. It is never too late to discover new passions – it is one of the best things about living!
I consider myself a late bloomer. It takes me a while to warm up, to come into my own, to really love something. It is ok to find new things that you have a passion for later in life. There is no time like the present. I hope I never stop discovering new passions. I do love change - although, I am going to call it growth because it is more accurate. I love to learn, and grow and expand my universe. I am so happy we are doing it together.
I want to encourage you and others to not stop until you find your passion, and then do it every day. Maybe you will make it into a business, or career, or maybe it will remain a beloved hobby. I for one would love to make art full time, or own a shop with the most amazing art, rugs, and furniture for interiors. Interior design is another thing I am obsessed with – I read lots of design blogs and have fun decorating my home. But, there are so many things to have passion about in this world – making music, cooking, building furniture, reading, writing, photography, fitness, I could go on and on and not even scratch the surface of the passions this world provides.
So – what are you waiting for?
Do what you love, find your passion, expand your universe. Feel the joy that you deserve.
Love you, I hope you make some beautiful art today!!
About the art
This painting entitled "Read my mind" is what I call one of my water paintings where I pour, drizzle and drip paint and let the paint guide me. I never know exactly how it will turn out and that makes it so fun to make!! I love to mix paint colors, and layer them on top of each other. I love how the transparent colors layer over each other, creating new colors and revealing something even more beautiful. So, these represent to me the many layers of who we are and even reveal new surprises within us that we didn't even know existed. If you could read my mind this is what you would see - many beautiful layers of me.
Song - "Read my mind" by The Killers
So, I named the painting after this song for some reason - I tend to do that, name my paintings after songs. This is an oldie but goodie from The Killers. They are on my mind because my hubby really likes them and I saw them in concert with Marcy way back whenever that was - (2007?). I am crossing my fingers that they will be one of the headliners at ACL Festival this fall - COME ON KILLERS!!!
